FAQs
When and where is the event?
It’s on Saturday, February 28 from 7-10pm.
The venue is Thompson’s Barn in Lenexa.
Note: don’t let the venue name fool you. This is not the kind of barn you need to watch where you step.
Who should attend?
This is an adults-only event for OHE families.
Prom? Does that mean I have to stand in the corner awkwardly the entire night? I do not dance.
Good news. Lots to do at Prom for those with two left feet. We will have wine/whiskey pull, raffles, prom pictures, sports on TV, food and drink and great company. And if your significant other is a party pooper, grab your friends and make it a guy’s/girl’s night.
There is no way I’m fitting into my prom dress/suit. What do I wear?
The beauty of OHE parent events is that they aren’t pretentious. Have one of those t-shirts that looks like a tuxedo? Nailed it. Found an old prom dress at Goodwill that involves awesome shoulder pads? Let’s see it! Do not feel like you need to spend a bunch of money to attend. Come in what you have or what you can borrow from a friend.
What happened to Trivia Night? That was fun!
Trivia Night is a ton of fun and a successful fundraiser for the PTO. OHE staff and administration asked the PTO to move the event to the fall, so be on the lookout for Trivia Night next school year. Trivia Night is a successful fundraiser because of the silent auction portion. Obtaining all those auction items isn’t a small undertaking, and we didn’t want to ask for items now, just to turn around and ask for items again in a few months. Thus, the format change for our spring fundraiser.
Prom is more expensive than Trivia Night. What gives?
The ticket price for Prom is more expensive ($75/ticket if purchased by 2/13/26, $100/ticket after 2/13). Prom is more like an all-inclusive resort in that DJ, food and open bar are all part of the price. None of these items were provided at Trivia Night. The PTO generates funds at Trivia Night on silent auction items. The average auction spend for those who attended Trivia Night last year, outside of ticket sales, was $137 a person. We understand not everyone can accommodate the ticket price for Prom in their budget. It is a fundraiser for the school, and the price covers expenses while still honoring the fact it is a fundraiser. If you would like to attend but can’t afford the ticket price, please contact the school social worker. We are happy to anonymously extend at-cost tickets to those who would like to attend.
Where is the money raised going?
The PTO website details how money will be distributed. Included in the budget are all the free or economical student-oriented events: Popsicle Pop-In (free), Hawk Block Party (free), Movie on the Lawn Night (free) and Sneakers and Sequins ($). The biggest year over year changes to the budget are associated with supporting field trips/assemblies and the dozen additional staff members at OHE. The PTO Fundraising Team is working their tails off to put Prom together to help meet fundraising goals. We’d love to have you participate and bring a friend!
